Thyroid and parathyroid glands are endocrine glands that play an important role in regulating the production and secretion of hormones. These hormones can affect most human cells and tissues and have been treated as messengers. In particular, thyroid hormones, such as thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), are essential for mediating the metabolic rate of the human body and the levels of mineral content in human blood. Moreover, many studies have demonstrated that parathyroid hormone can be used to control the number of minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium. Besides, recent reports have indicated that the improper functioning of the thyroid and parathyroid glands are associated with the occurrence and progression of various autoimmune diseases, such as hypoparathyroidism and Graves' disease. For the treatment, antithyroid drugs, radioactive Iodine (RAI), and surgery have become the standard methods for treating these diseases. The data have shown that these methods are effective in patients, but can cause some side effects.

Among them, autoimmune hyperthyroidism is usually caused by an excess of hormones produced by the thyroid gland. Hashimoto’s disease is a condition that can lead to inflammation of the thyroid gland and impaired thyroid hormone function. Also, Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that often results in an enlarged thyroid.
